Daxi is the oldest developed area in Taoyuan. During the Japanese period, Daxi flourished through trade on the Dahan River, and this prosperity left many grand buildings in the city.Daxi’s architectural style is described as a "cultural mosaic" that blends Eastern and Western elements. On Heping and Zhongshan Roads, you can see exquisite Baroque facades, Greek pediments, and Roman columns. These Western styles stand alongside Chinese lucky symbols like fish or bats, showing a unique and diverse beauty. Besides, Daxi’s traditional woodcraft and lively festivals also give this old town sustainable vitality. 🏛️ 大溪歷史建築群 (The Historical Core)
武德殿 (Butokuden / Martial Arts Hall) 武德殿位於大溪中正公園旁,建於 1935 年,是日治時期警察練習武術(如劍道與柔道)的場所 。它是台灣保存最完整的武德殿之一,展現了傳統的和風建築美學。這座建築最特別的是它的「洗石子」牆面與雄偉的木構造屋頂 。如今,武德殿已成為大溪木藝生態博物館的一部分,經常舉辦各種藝文展覽與青少年工作坊 。歷史與現代生活在此交會,讓這座古老的訓練場變成了推廣在地工藝與文化的動態舞台 。 Located next to Daxi Zhongzheng Park, Wude Hall was built in 1935 as a place for police officers to practice martial arts, such as Kendo and Judo, during the Japanese period. The most special features of this building are its "Washee" (stone-like) walls and its grand wooden roof structure. Today, Wude Hall has become part of the Daxi Wood Art Ecomuseum and often hosts various art exhibitions and youth workshops. History and modern life meet here, turning this old training ground into a dynamic stage for promoting local crafts and culture. 六連棟 (Six-bay Houses)

Walking into the shrine, you can see the Torii gate, stone lanterns, and the Temizuya (water pavilion), all of which are well-preserved. In recent years, it has become a popular cultural spot, often holding markets and exhibitions. Through lively scenes, the museum helps today’s youth understand how Tudi Gong connects the past agricultural society with modern urban life. This is an important public history site where everyone can feel the precious cultural heritage while joining tours and handicraft activities.
